Call to Worship

I wait for the Lord,

My soul waits, and in God’s word I hope.

My soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning,

More than those who watch for the morning.

In faith, let us turn to our God, whose love is sure, praying together:

Prayer of the Day

Almighty God, in Jesus Christ you show us the breadth of your power and the depth of your love.  You listen to our cries of pain and hear our laments.  You see the fear in our eyes and know the secrets of our hearts.  You do not turn from our distress, but stretch out your hand to heal, to comfort, and to save.  All thanks and praise be to you, O God; your steadfast love endures forever. Amen.

Hymn of Praise #59 “The Steadfast Love of the Lord”

Invitation to Healing

Because of such great mercy, God is ready to forgive all the ways we fail to live in faithfulness. Relying on that mercy, let us submit ourselves to God and one another.

Prayer of Wholeness

Trusting you does not always come easy when each day we are faced with the ugliness of the world.  We do not believe that love conquers fear. We are not convinced that power comes through weakness. We cannot conceive how you could heal us. Forgive our lack of faith, O God, and renew our trust in you, for we would be disciples of Jesus, in whose name we pray.

Kyrie: #752 “Dona nobis pacem Sing twice through in a round

Assurance and Passing of the Peace

Friends, believe this Good News: God is One and God is Three – Love constantly flowing in, out, and through; the gift of Jesus Christ for me and for you. For this we say: Thanks be to God!

Since God has loved us through Christ, let us love one another. Please share a sign of peace with those with whom you are worshiping.

Hymn of Response: #583 “Gloria, gloria2x in a round

Celebrating Joys: Where we have seen God at work

Hymn of Response: #591 “Halle, Halle, Halle” (2x through)

THE WORD

Prayer of Illumination:

By the power of your Spirit, speak your Word to us, O God. Show us who you are and who you are calling us to be, for the sake of your Son and our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Hebrew Scripture: Psalm 130

“The Word of the Lord” “Thanks be to God”

Gospel Reading: Mark 5:21-43

“The Gospel of the Lord” “Praise to you O Christ”

Reflection: TL 6-27-2021 Two Stories ~ Pastor Scott Crane

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

Hymn of Response #161 “Woman in the Night”

Affirmation of Faith: ~ Adapted from A Brief Statement of Faith, section 4

We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voice of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace.

Intercessory Prayers of the People

“Lord in your mercy,” “Hear our prayers

The Lord’s Prayer: “…debts…debtors…”

Minute for Mission

Invitation to Present Our Offerings

God has provided us with all that we need. It is our privilege to give back to God; therefore let us humbly return a portion of what God has so freely given to us.

Offertory “Minuet” ~ Johann Sebastian Bach
Doxology

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Praise Christ all creatures here below!

Praise Holy Spirit evermore!

Praise Triune God whom we adore! Amen!

Prayer of Thanksgiving/Dedication

Most Holy God, Who hears our prayers and answers them and gives us more than we can ask or imagine. Accept these offerings and use them to your glory, that even now we might imitate your coming reign of justice, peace, and love; for the sake of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.

SENDING

Closing Hymn #747 “The Lord Now Send Us Forth”

Charge:

Go in peace, trusting even where you have not seen.

Benediction:

May God our Guardian protect you, Christ the Healer restore you, and the Holy Spirit sustain you this day and forever more.

Song: “Let There Be Peace on Earth”

Bathrooms and a diaper changing station are located in the Fellowship Hall.  Please join us at the outdoor pavilion for coffee, refreshments and conversation following worship.

Questions for Reflection:

In this week’s readings, various people bring their suffering to God, through lament (David in the 2 Samuel passage and the writer of Psalm 130), through requests for spiritual and fiscal assistance (Paul to the Corinthians) and the search for healing (Jairus for his daughter and the hemorrhaging woman for herself). How does Christ enable you – and how might you enable others – to be honest with God in doubt and pain?

Household Prayer: Morning

By your grace I arise from my bed this morning, Lord; by the power of your Spirit I draw my breath. As the dawn brightens into day, enlighten my mind with your truth and open my heart to all those I meet, that I might reflect the light of Jesus Christ, in whose name I give thanks and praise. Amen.

Household Prayer: Evening

As the night deepens, Lord, I give myself to your care. For the ways you enabled me to live faithfully today, thank you. For the ways I failed to follow Christ, forgive me. And if I do not awaken in the morning, receive me into your everlasting arms. Amen.

  1. Warren Williams says:

Is worship happening at the Trout Lake building?

    • Scottrick says:

Thanks for asking, Warren. We are planning on staying home this weekend because of the excessive heat warning. Otherwise, we have returned to in-person worship with social distancing and masks.
