THE GATHERING

Gathering Music

Welcome and Announcements

Prelude:

* Call to Worship

Give thanks to the Lord, for God is good.

God’s steadfast love endures forever.

Steadfast love and faithfulness will meet;

Righteousness and peace will kiss.

In worship. let us pray together:

* Prayer of the Day

Holy Trinity, yours is the justice that calls power to account.  Yours is the love that calls sinners to repent.  Yours is the mercy that forgives us and grants us eternal life.  Lead us in the truth about the Beloved and set us free to rejoice with all our might over the great mystery you have revealed: that you are bringing all things into harmony through Jesus Christ the Lord.  Amen.

* Hymn of Praise: #307 “God of Grace and God of Glory”

* Invitation to Healing

The perfection of Jesus Christ calls us to be holy and blameless.  Let us move in repentance and merciful forgiveness as we seek to live in Christ’s ways:

* Prayer of Wholeness

Gentle understanding Savior, it is hard to live always walking in your ways.  You show us what is good, but we choose another way.  You show us what is right, but we fail to do your will.  Forgive us, God of grace.  Redeem us and restore us to your image so that our lives may honor you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

                                                 Please continue in silent prayer

* Kyrie: #437 “You Are the Lord, Giver of Mercy

* Assurance and Passing of the Peace

Friends, believe this Good News: God is One and God is Three – Love constantly flowing in, out, and through; the gift of Jesus Christ for me and for you. For this we say: Thanks be to God!

Since God has loved us through Christ, let us love one another. Please share a sign of peace with those with whom you are worshiping.

* Sung Response: #591 “Halle, Halle, …(chorus twice)

Questions for Reflection:

To experience one’s self as God’s beloved is a gift beyond compare. For some, it is difficult to receive such a gift; for others, such grace comes more easily. How can we deepen our experience of that gift in ourselves? How might we encourage this gift in others?

Please reflect silently a few moments, then share as the Spirit leads.

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

* Hymn of Response: #731 “Give Thanks for Those…”

* Affirmation of Faith: Adapted from the Confession of 1967, 9.32-3

The life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ has set the pattern for the church’s mission.  His human life involves the church in the common life of all people; his service to men and women commits the church to work for every form of human well being….So to live and serve is to confess Christ as Lord.
